Dr. Osorio’s research on CAD and CAM technology published
This past summer, Dr. Julian Osorio published selections from his research on computer-aided design (CAD) technology and compute-aided milling (CAM) technology. Dr. Osorio worked with Dr. Robert B. Kerstein on the development of the chapter, “Use of CAD/CAM Technology in Custom Abutment Manufacturing”, which was published in the Clinical and Laboratory Manual of Dental Implant Abutments.
The chapter discusses the history of CAD and CAM technology in prosthetic dentistry. Prior to the development of this technology, most abutments for implants were made manually. The chapter goes on to detail Atlantics patient-specific custom abutment manufacturing technology, which initiated the custom abutment-manufacturing portion of implant prosthetics. Laboratory steps in the fabrication of these custom abutments are also discussed. The chapter offers clinical cases as well that showcase the use of the Atlantis abutments.
Dr. Osorio was the founder of Atlantis Components and the inventor of the Atlantis Abutment System.
